French club Monaco have revealed that they are extremely close to signing the Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, who is one of the most wanted strikers in the world right now. Monaco have emerged as the latest big spenders in European football due to the backing of their Russian billionaire owner. The club recently signed Moutinho and James Rodriguez from FC Porto for a combined transfer fee of more than £ 70 million. They are looking to take their spending beyond the £ 100 million mark with the signing of Radamel Falcao, who has a £ 50 million buyout clause in his contract.

Falcao has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester city over the last few months. He has scored 32 goals in the league alone this season. He has been a major reason towards Atletico Madrid returning to winning ways in terms of trophies in recent years. The 27-year-old Colombian will be joining the former Chelsea defender, Ricardo Carvalho, who recently sealed a free transfer to the French club. Monaco sporting director Vadim Vasilyev, though, has said that there is no truth to the rumours linking Monaco with Carlos Tevez.

“Things are progressing well, but it’s not finalised yet, there are still some details to sort out. We really want to complete the transfer of this great player. He is among the best players in the world; we will be very happy when he signs. He really believes in the future of Monaco. Many newspapers talk about it but this issue has never been discussed,” said Vadim Vasilyev. Monaco were recently promoted to the French first division under the guidance of former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri, who is also keen on raiding his former club.
